The DELL Study

Welcome to the DELL study webpage!

The Dietary Effects on Large Lipoproteins (DELL) study seeks to better understand how the different types of fat we eat can affect certain risk factors for heart disease.

Researchers at the Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) are conducting a study to investigate diets with different amounts of saturated fat, derived mostly from dairy products. The goal is to determine what effect dietary increases in saturated fat, without weight loss, have on cholesterol and lipoproteins in individuals who have increased levels of small, dense LDL particles. Lipoproteins are the particles that carry fat and cholesterol in your blood and deliver the fat and cholesterol to your cells. Lipoproteins come in different sizes and densities from large and buoyant to small and dense. It is not well understood how saturated fat affects lipoproteins of differing size and density.
